CJB March Lunch and Learn Webinar - w/ Ted Green, PE, M. ASCE, President ASCE Central Jersey Branch

Slide in Bridge Construction (SIBC), or lateral slide, is one of the Federal Highway Every Day Counts proven, yet underutilized construction method for bridge construction.  On a SIBC project, a new bridge is built on temporary supports, usually parallel to an existing bridge. During construction, traffic continues uninterrupted on the existing bridge. When construction is completed, the road is closed temporarily. The existing structure is demolished or removed and the new structure is slid into place.

When planning a project to be constructed with SIBC, the designer must consider how the construction method impacts the design of the permanent structure, and what temporary works may be required to facilitate construction. This presentation will offer insight to design issues than must be considered for SIBC.
